These will begin wil Star instead of the typical '.:'. Breeding Changes:For these I started with the. My formula only applies to wild monsters and since it boosts them considerably, it may make what you are talking about easier. However the point was to make enemies much more difficult to account for how easy it is to get high stats. To create wild monsters I take that monster's stat ranks 0-31, then equalize a pre-existing example of that monster to a similar range. I sum those to create the level 1 monster then add the monster's natural growth to raise its level.
On harder stages I take those level 1 stats and multiply them. The hardest stages involve a multiplier of 5.At some point the stats of wild monsters will force you to focus more on skills and tactics.Lol, minor trivia that I do all my work in Excel or rather it does the work for me. I am playing this hack right know, and right know I am in the Ice World.About the difficulty:The first boss was way too difficult, I lost counts for how much I abused save states in that fight. And the same applies to the first arena battle. Some random encounter monsters are too strong.I also noticed that you changed mimic chests for Copycat, which is a odd choice but not something that bothers me. The problem is, I encountered this chest in the Pirate World and was able to recruit the Copycat with 2 Ribs, and he was at level 99. Though I decided not to recruit it, because its way too OP at this point of the game. And I dont think there was a need to add so much monsters in the worlds. I made the hack with the intention to make areas that you must be cautious about and require more work to capture the monsters. I found the original games don't really matter who you are fighting from region to region.
I always seem to overlevel my team in DQ games that I play, so I wanted to make something very tough. The first boss is meant to give you a taste of the difficulty I was going for. That fight is not that difficult, depending on your tactics.
A combo of Sap/Upper is honestly OP throughout most of the game. Also, if you get in the habit of using direct commands you're gonna have a bad time. Regardless I've an added an equip to the Oasis store in the latest release that should help with that fight.Sorry about the first arena battle. That wasn't supposed to be that hard, I've reduced this in the lastest release. The fact that you encountered Copycat is very disappointing. The game totals your levels to determine which mimic you encounter.
I guess you do not need to be high level to encounter the final mimic which is CopyCat. I will have to see if I can change what level each mimic is encountered at as there are 7.While it is level 99, its stats are not that impressive.
In this game a high level monster isn't all that great, since you'll want to give it skills and pluses. It is just good breeding material.Yes, some bosses can be recruited with meat. This mostly includes their helpers or minibosses that don't auto-join.(None of the evil doers in Ice are recruitable). The first boss fight was very difficult for me, even after spending more than half an hour I had trouble beating him. He deals ridiculous damage, that fight was completly luck based.
Its nice that you added Equipment to the Oasis store, but for how much is the equipment sold? Because Gold is really scarce in the first world. As for Copycat his HP and MP stats were nothing to be laughed, the rest of his stats were not impressive. You sure made the foreign masters ridiculously powerful, I stand no chance against them. I am guessing you intended the Magic Key Worlds to be explored post-game.
Since I am in the Sky world right now and they kick my ass handily. Also do you have any plans making a hack like this for DWM? Would be really nice to see a hack like this for the first game.
I find it odd that you had trouble with him, but not 'HoodSquid' or 'BombCrag' or the final boss of the ice world. He likely requires a team of level 16 to beat. In 3 playthroughs of that level it beat me 5 times. Still I should probably look at the XP reward of everyone again.
The newest release also fixes the healing values of Herbs. They should help a lot. If you need gold, sell a TinyMedal.Random Masters were intended to be somewhat post-game. They have very tough teams, though it should depend on the key world you are in. Lesser keys shouldn't have very tough masters. I might have made it a bit to easy to acquire higher level keys. This is based on the level of the first member of your party.I was actually planning to make a hack of the first game when I found all the info on how to hack this game.
I would have to find all the hex values myself, but I might pursue it in the future. I just beat the main game, and none of the bosses gave me any trouble except the last battle against Darck‘s henchmen(and the first boss as I mentioned before). The random encounters gave me more trouble than the bosses did, even the final boss(Dark Drium) had less than 1000hp.It seems like to me you set the Boss stats based on level, which would explain why they all have so low hp.And I‘ve got to mention I don‘t like that you changed the boss fights with completly different monsters, especially the last three bosses in the storyline. These changes are really jarring.Another thing I didn‘t like is that you made some really rare monsters as random encounters. For example Rosevine, Metalking, Darkhorn and even freaking Sidoh(which I recruited with 1 Sirloin). I don‘t know if those monsters are encountered only once in this hack, because I havent seen them the second time.
But still it feels really wrong to have those monsters as random encounters.By the way, where can I find Skydragons? I seem to remember encountering them in the Sky World, but can‘t remember exactly where they were.
Thanks for playing all the way through. I was thinking some bosses after Ice likely needed their HP raised. Monsters are regioned by ATK not level.I want to be able to change story and sprites to make the boss changes less jarring, but I'm not able to do that at this time. I wanted real showdowns for the main story.
Mudou and Darck are lame. Many rare monsters you can find cannot be caught until they are bred first. Sidoh is supposed to be quite rare, but I don't know how well the RNG works.
There was a bug in the older versions. I may have to increase the number of monsters that cannot be caught until bred as well as make them harder to catch.Sky Dragon is now in the Sky World monster tower at the start of the map. If you want to make this game somewhat challenging, you should give all the bosses at least twice, if not thrice the amount of hp they have. This also applies to the monster master battles like Kameha, Terry etc.
Just to give an example, Darck has 4000hp in the original game, while the final boss in this hack less than 1000hp. You can use this guide for comparison sake.Changing the normal sprites should be feasible to do, but Darck and Mudo have their own big animated sprite which is not possible to change.Except there was no showdown for me, because the bosses went down so fast with their low hp. And if you wanted a less lame Mudou and Darck battlem, you could have given those bosses; better stats, movesets, two strong monsters to add. Darck's henchman having boss monsters is also not a good decision. Those changes really distrupt the flow of the story.Forgot to mention that I also encountered a wild Darck.Well, I know that those monsters need to be breed first before you can catch them, though funnily enough this doesn't apply to Darck and Sidoh. But my point is such monsters shouldn't be that easy to get.
I mean you already made so many strong monsters so easily available. From a game design point of view, it's a bad decision to have thoses really rare monsters as random encounters in the main story key worlds.I am almost sure those monsters appear only once in the game, and those monsters appear in the first encounter you set foot to 'x' Area(where they are supposed to appear).Do you get Kagebou by breeding a Slime monsters with Watabou or Warubou?Another question I have is, how do you get Darck in this Hack? Since you removed him as a Tinymedal monster reward. I will post an update in the future with some HP tweaks. I thought the HP of the minions would help balance the difference but I guess not. While feasible I wasn't able to find a way to change their sprites. These appear to be buried in map and event data.
I tried a few methods to find it but wasn't successful. We'll have to agree to disagree on the boss choices. I find it ridiculous to have these awesome bosses that aren't used. Same goes for rare monsters. They are found randomly in key worlds and I found this very sloppy. The original game is all over the place when it comes to the rarity of encountered monsters. One of the first Magic Keys I received has Roboster2, IceMan, LavaMan, CloudKing mixed in with all sorts of common monsters. When my friend first played the game he quit the story at the Ice key to explore random key worlds.
It wasn't long before he found keys with Rosevine, Jamirus and Durran and Divinegon. He was able to skip over most of the breeding. In order to make exploring the story keys worth while I wanted to create interesting monster regions. My biggest complaint with the original game was that the story explores maybe 25% of the content and they left the random keys to do the rest. There was a bug in the RNG that seems to make it so you encounter rare spawns (often two at once) the first time you enter an area. I've since post an update to get around that bug. I will make Sidoh and other catchable bosses require breeding and more meat to catch.
This excludes Darck. You must catch him to obtain him in the tower of the Traveler key.Kagebou? Woops its actually called PetitBouFoohero x Darck = WarubouWarubou x Slime (Monster) = WatabouSlime (Family) x Watabou = PetitBouSlime (Family) x Warubou = PetitBouPetitbou is arguably the best monster in the game as it has great stats and the lowest xp requirements. I just started this hack yesterday and completed the first world so far.I like that larger encounters (2-3, 3 more common) are already more standard in the first world. In the original, it took more until the end of Pirate World/Ice World to see bigger encounters being standard. The monster variety is through the roof!
I even had to release some already because you don't start with a lot of room in the farm. A lot of very interesting enemies.I like that Herbs heal 50-80 HP now, which is great as they're not hard to get (just run around Oasis World a bit, go back to GreatLog, and repeat), but they're very useful.
At least for awhile, this should make it where it's not too necessary to have more than one monster with Heal.I also see the OddBelt is purchaseable for 500G in one of the Oasis World towns, which is very nice, as some monsters have MP problems (BigEye is a notable one! Great skill set but he doesn't have much MP to work with) and 80MP solves that very well.Overall I'm having a lot of fun so far. The random battles are pretty challenging which is a breath of fresh air. First of all a gigantic thank you for your effort!DWM1+2 are my all time favorite games and they're the only thing helping me to relax as I've to go through quiete some stuff. At times I had 6+ savegames in parallel to avoid finishing the game too fast and hoped for any kind of mod for years.
Its really awesome to finally have that and you did a great job with it. So thats my very subjective comment on your mod from the autistic gamer front (after 9h ingame):- I think the difficulty level is just right. Though the bosses could use a little more HP its really fun to predict the strength of the next non-random encounter and so far it kept being a surprise- Can you increase the repellant for multiple uses as u did with bookmarks and warpwings? At times its nice to rush to somewhere and to require only one item slot for multiple uses would be neat- The only thing I'm really missing in this mod is the ability to collect all keys. The need to trade or cheat for Brawn, Baffle and Soul Key disrupts the 'ultimate experience' somehowIt would be amazing to have them replaced for the gold rewards of the kings quests in late game. If its too difficult to implement there can you not just throw them in one of the chests in kamehas room or the like?- I was slightly irritaded by the choice of gismo and its level.
I see why stats justify a non level 1 start but I personally would prefer a level 1 monster as first companion. However thats just personal and not so relevant, but the name of the game would suggest a dragon as starter to be very intuitive. (And also increase the challenge to raise it at the start)- Some shops that I found still sell sirloin for 1,5k but its not that big of an issue. Unfortunately I forgot to write down which ones but maybe its not that bad to have a little variation yet.- Again just personal preference; though the meteorb for 1 medal is great, the other reward monsters seem not that desirable to me, also with respect to their cost. For me it'll end up in buying meteorbs with medals or use them just for money. Maybe you can reconsider which monsters to select as rewards?
I found something like a boss monster for 10-15 is good to easily get breads that need a???-Partner or maybe a 4-star rarity monster like ogodemir for 15-20 would be sweet. So that theres a real motivation to get medals and save them up for someone special Another thought was whether its possible to slip in a (random) magic key for X tiny medals? Or even better something like 44+ medals for soul key and the like which could also motivate an even longer post game gaming experience- Lastly I'd hope to see the drop rates of crushing stones/trees to be altered.
Though I personally am not that kind of a minecrafter it would be a very sweet alternate way to grind for items and gold. Thanks for your feedback!I was actually planning to raise the repellent uses in my last update but forgot:SUnfortunately I couldn't find a way to make all the keys available. I tried to put them in a chest but the code acquiring a specific key seems to be very different.
You only ever get a specific key from some sort of dialogue event so I had to make use of that. I wanted to increase the number of chests with random keys and wasn't successful with that either.
If you beat the Baffle and Brawn key, you will get the Soul key from the king as usual. The reason I used Gismo was because he learns FireAir and IceAir. He's also used in a lot of breeding paths. I really wanted something with very mediocre stats that you would be inclined to breed into your main fighters. I felt there's something special getting to use your first monster this way. I rarely had any good use for Slime.I tried to find all the sirloin prices, but I would need to know their locations to fix them going forward.
I will see if I can find the values for the random item drops. This is something I wanted to tweak to increase the rate of finding rods since I removed them from stores.I was torn about the meteorb price. In order to make sure the other choices are worthwhile, the higher cost monsters have very good starting stats. I also wanted monsters you would need lots of for breeding. Some people have complained about making boss monsters too easy to acquire. Be aware there are a few you can find and catch. If I could implement much more sophisticated options I would like to add some of your suggestions. If you want random keys, I was able to increase the odds of getting one from all tiers of the arena.
Rather than making everything dependent on Tiny Medals, I tried to set up the arena as a source for Tiny Medals, MeteOrbs and Keys.I also really wanted to change the equipment values, but haven't been successful in finding them.I like your suggestions, If I was much more skilled at romhacking I would implement a character and starter choice screen. If there is demand I could always make separate game patches with different starters. I could also make a patch that awards Brawn and Baffle keys instead of Elf and Lonely.November 09, 2018, 02:10:09 pm - (Auto Merged - Double Posts are not allowed before 7 days.).
